He began his clinical work focused on cancer pain and moved into leading and directing one of the first palliative care programs in the nation. Patrick emphasizes the importance of finding your individual leadership voice to advance your palliative care contributions in caring for those with serious illness, as well as cultivating mentors and collaborators who share your vision of interdisciplinary team care management.

Dr. Cheatham, a specialist in the areas of burnout, moral distress, trauma, and grief, shares with us what she is seeing and hearing from healthcare workers across the country during this time of crisis. She offers tips on how to best take care of ourselves during times of uncertainty using techniques that can easily be incorporated into our practice to develop a more resilient and emotionally intelligent mindset. Dr. Cheatham inspires us with messages of hope, meaning-making, and seeing things as an opportunity rather than a threat, as we find the resilience to heal through COVID-19 and beyond.
Dr. Cheatham began her career in social services with an MA in psychology, a certification in trauma counseling, a PhD in health and kinesiology, and a M.Div., followed by a decade of working as a hospice chaplain and bereavement coordinator.
